Brands That Produce Solar Powered Lawn Mowers

Everyone enjoys the look and feel of a newly-mown lawn, inhaling the aroma of fresh-cut grass and wiggling their toes in the smooth turf. However, maintaining a lawn is hard work, requiring the use of mowers, trimmers and edgers, most of which need gasoline to operate. It seems a pity to burn fossil fuels simply to create a pleasant yard, so many lawn care experts now recommend the use of solar powered mowers.
Solar mowing in a nutshell
Solar power is a relatively new addition to the lawn care arsenal. Although solar cells have been in use for many years in various applications, it is only recently that they have been adapted to lawn mowers. The solar cells are securely mounted to the top surface of the mower, getting the maximum benefit of the sun and feeding a lightweight internal battery. A full charge will easily provide enough power to cut even the biggest lawn in one session.
A few bold manufacturers
Since the technology is relatively new, there are few providers of solar mowers. The probable leader in the industry is Recharge, leading the pack with their PMLI-14 Ultralite model. Husqvarna has an interesting variant called the Automower Solar Hybrid – a robotic, solar powered mower that runs by itself based on your programming. Finally, the Razarsharp MiniMower claims to be the smallest electric mower on the market; it is perfect for compact urban lawns.
As solar technology further penetrates the lawn mower segment, we can confidently expect to see a wider range of models and lower prices. Early adopters of solar mowers are paying a premium in order to get in the door, but the environmental benefits seem to outweigh the higher initial cost.
