Riding v. Push Mowers

Lawn care is a major responsibility for homeowners and property managers all over the country. Everybody needs to take care of their grass, shrubbery and other elements that make a lawn a green and pleasant place to spend a summer afternoon. There is one great controversy in all this, however; should you use a riding mower, or a push mower?

Riding in style

Riding mowers have certainly taken much of the drudgery out of lawn care. Instead of pushing a heavy mower around your yard, you can ride in comfort and style. Many of the newer model riders even include a drink holder. A riding mower can get a large lawn trimmed in a short amount of time.

Give it a push

Push mowers appeal to the traditionalist in all of us, particularly the reel-type, unpowered mower. This push mower is the lawn tool for people who prefer to take their time, and savor the outdoor experience. It is also the better choice for people with small yards.

Alone or in a group

Another consideration is the amount of help you have around the house. A large yard can be a real obstacle if you are working alone, but with a couple of teenagers and multiple push mowers it is no big problem. If you have health issues and have difficulty walking, a riding mower is a better choice, no matter the lawn size.

As you can see, this choice of lawn tool is a very personal one, and there is no one answer that works for everyone. You need to look at your yard, consider your feelings about the environment, consult your health — and then get out and mow the lawn, because your wife and neighbors are nagging you about it.
